System Center Mobile Device Manager SP1 on the way

Over on the SCMDM Team Blog they have released details of what can be expected in the first service pack release to SCMDM 2008.

You can read the full article here:

http://blogs.technet.com/scmdm/archive/2008/09/02/what-s-coming-in-scmdm-sp1.aspx

But to paraphrase, the highlights are as follows:

Support for installation on Windows Server 2008.

Currently only one MDM server can be installed into an Active Directory forest, SP1 allows multiple servers to be installed into different OUs, with each OU only having control over the mobile devices within their region, without interfering with what other IT departments may be doing in their own region.

SP1 also provides the ability to reset the PIN on a Windows Mobile device. This functionality is already present in Exchange 2007, but this update will allow the user to reset their own PIN via the MDM 'self-service portal'. This will, however, apparently also require an update to the Windows Mobile 6.1 client software, so a client update will be made available at the same time that the server upgrade is released.

Rest assured we will let you know when the update is actually released!
