System Center 2008 Mobile Device Manager Resource Kit Tools

Microsoft have released  a number of server and client tools to complement the Mobile Device Manager solution. The download page for the Tools can be found here:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/scmdm/cc304591.aspx

The tools fall into 2 categories: server and client. The server tools include a best practices analyser which can be used to verify that your environment meets the prerequisites for an installation of Mobile Device Manager.

Also available is the Bulk Enrollment Tool, which is an MMC snap-in enabling the administrator to create an enrollment template that can be applied to user accounts and groups, rather than having to create individual enrollment requests for individuals.

Lastly, the server tools include the Self-Service Portal web site, which can be installed on the enrollment server and provides users with the ability to enroll and wipe their windows mobile device without having to ask the administrator to do it for them:

There is also a portal administration page that allows the administrator to enable or disable which features are available to the user:

The Client Tools include 2 packages for the Windows Mobile platform: the Mobile VPN diagnostics utility, and the MDM Connect Now Tool.

The Connect Now Tool enables users of Windows Mobile 6.1 managed devices to download new software updates queued since the managed device last synchronized with the MDM system. The tool initiates a session between MDM Device Management Server and a managed device. Once the tool establishes a connection, new software updates are downloaded to the managed device.

The VPN Diagnostics Tool helps you diagnose VPN issues between the MDM Server and the devices it manages. The tool allows you to see the VPN configuration and status on the managed Windows Mobile device and to diagnose any VPN-related problems. The tool also allows the managed device user to collect device logs and send them to a diagnostics team for further analysis.

All tools are available free for download.
